Abstract

This study aims to analyze the content of compounds that have the potential as natural dyes in Camellia sinensis seed coat extract to explore the value of developing natural dyes in plants. Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis was used to identify the content of bioactive compounds in Camellia sinensis seed coat extract, the results revealed that there were 10 compounds namely Eugenol, 3,5-Dihydroxytoluence (Orcinol), Heptanoic acid, Neophytadiene, Caffeine, Vitamin E, Stigmasta-7, 16-dien-3-ol, &#945--Amyrin, Stigmast-7-en-3-ol, (3&#946-, 5&#945-)-, 4,4A,6B,8A,11,11,12B,14A-Octamrthyldocosahydro-3-Picenol. Caffeine is the most dominant compound in Camellia sinensis seed coat with a content of 60.97%. The potential activity of natural dyes in Camellia sinensis seed coat extract is produced by the compound 3,5-Dihydroxytoluence (Orcinol), so that it can be used as a quality raw material agent in the development of natural dyes.
