Abstract

The growing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed journalistic practices in Indonesia, particularly in news production, editing, research, content optimization, and distribution. However, existing studies remain fragmented across different media organizations, journalistic practices, and research perspectives. This study systematically reviews empirical research on the use of AI in Indonesian journalism, focusing on its adoption, ethical implications, accuracy, and credibility. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, relevant journal articles were identified, screened, and analyzed according to predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings reveal four major themes. First, AI is primarily adopted as a supporting technology to improve the speed and efficiency of journalistic work rather than to replace journalists. Second, human oversight remains essential for verification, editorial judgment, and maintaining professional standards. Third, accuracy, contextual limitations, transparency, accountability, and adherence to journalistic ethics emerge as major concerns in AI-assisted news production. Fourth, although credibility and public trust are increasingly recognized as important consequences of AI adoption, most Indonesian studies remain producer-oriented, focusing predominantly on journalists and media organizations rather than audiences. This review highlights the need for audience-centered empirical research examining how AI involvement, disclosure, and human oversight influence perceived news credibility and public trust in Indonesian journalism.
