Abstract

The uniqueness of the form of the Al-Irsyad Satya Mosque has won various prestigious awards while also giving rise to various different public perspectives in interpreting the symbolic accents in the mosque. This study focuses on analyzing discursive and presentational symbols in the architectural elements and aims to describe it based on the symbol theory of Susanne Langer. Through the constructivism paradigm, qualitative approach and descriptive analysis method, the results of the study show that the discursive symbols in the architectural elements are based on the shape of the Kaaba as the main inspiration, the rules in building a mosque in accordance with Islamic law, and technical considerations in architectural science as well as communication considerations in the building. While the presentational symbol shows the process of strengthening the spiritual mental through transcendental communication between servants and khalik in building the solemnity of worship and humility as Muslims, as well as horizontal communication between fellow human beings through the open concept of the mosque building.
