Abstract
Open and Distance Learning (ODL) has developed into a specialised educational domain encompassing distinctive conceptual, pedagogical, technological, institutional, and quality-assurance terminology. Nevertheless, ODL terms are frequently translated and used inconsistently across Indonesian academic, administrative, policy, and instructional contexts. Building on an earlier printed glossary, this study develops a corpus-driven and user-centred model for an online English-Indonesian glossary of ODL. The glossary is envisioned not as a static list of translated terms, but as a dynamic digital lexicographic resource that embodies specialised concepts, contextual usage, terminological relationships, and bilingual equivalence. Adopting a design-based research approach, the study integrates corpus compilation, term identification and manual screening, conceptual classification, bilingual-equivalent mapping, expert validation, and prototype development. The proposed entry structure comprises an English headword, pronunciation guidance, a domain or subdomain label, a concept-oriented definition, a corpus-derived usage example, source evidence, and an expert-validated Indonesian equivalent. High-priority entries are further augmented by visual representations, related terms, variant forms, and cross-references. The resulting model provides a systematic framework for combining authentic corpus evidence, bilingual lexicographic analysis, disciplinary expertise, and user-oriented design principles in addressing terminological variation, contextual ambiguity, and information-navigation needs. The study contributes an integrative framework for developing online bilingual specialised glossaries that are linguistically reliable, conceptually coherent, pedagogically useful, digitally accessible, and suitable for future prototype evaluation involving students, tutors/lecturers/educators, ODL practitioners, policymakers, and translators.
