Abstract

The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into social media has transformed digital communication while intensifying the spread of disinformation and weakening civic trust. Although previous studies have explored AI, social media, and misinformation separately, limited research has examined their intersection through a strategic Human-AI communication perspective. This study aims to develop a conceptual framework for Strategic Human-AI Communication to combat disinformation and rebuild civic trust in the digital era. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines was conducted using peer-reviewed articles indexed in Scopus and Web of Science published between 2019 and 2026. The selected studies were analyzed through thematic synthesis to identify key concepts, theoretical developments, and emerging research trends. The findings reveal four interrelated dimensions of Strategic Human-AI Communication: AI-assisted information verification, algorithmic transparency, human-centered digital literacy, and participatory communication governance. The review indicates that AI is most effective when functioning as a collaborative partner supporting human judgment rather than replacing it. Transparent AI systems, ethical journalism, and collaborative fact-checking contribute significantly to strengthening information integrity and restoring civic trust. This study proposes an integrated conceptual framework that advances the literature on strategic communication and Human-AI interaction while providing practical insights for policymakers, journalists, media organizations, and digital platform developers to foster trustworthy and resilient digital communication ecosystems.
