Abstract
This study reconstructs women^s empowerment through Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) in the Former Banyumas Residency. Women still find it difficult to get the same opportunities to access credit/financing from financial institutions. This study aims to uncover the factors of difficulty in accessing these and reveal the suboptimal Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) to provide credit (financing) to women. Women^s access to financing is still low due to high interest rates, and there are still obligations for male guarantors. The research methods used, the type of field research, and the approach using the socio-legal approach, Socio Legal can be called the study of critical law, nondoctrinal thinking about the law that rests on criticism of the legal order so that it is necessary to reconstruct women^s empowerment using the framework of the study of the system of working law through legal substance, legal structure, and legal culture. Socio-legal studies are characterized by their interdisciplinary nature, drawing on a variety of approaches to the social sciences and humanities. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, document studies, and FGD. The data analysis technique used was qualitative. The model used for the data analysis was an interactive model. The results of this study show that MFIs have not been successful in empowering women, even though they have organized many empowerment programs. Overall, women are still positioned in the second class. The reconstruction of women^s empowerment by revitalizing the role of the government in terms of legal substance, namely the construction of rules in the form of women-friendly financing, women-friendly regional regulations, and how these regulations can be a stimulant for community productivity, especially women. MFIs so that the ability of every woman to balance and perform her role in women^s economic empowerment reflects the economic empowerment of the community and the nation. The limitations of this study have not touched the whistle-blower policy- it is open for further researchers to examine it.
