Abstract

In the industrial sector, laboratories, as well as testing and inspection institutions, the accuracy of temperatre measurements is a crucial aspect in ensuring product quality, process safety, and compliance with technical standards. Thermometer calibration is an essential process to ensure that the obtained temperature measurement results remain within acceptable tolerance limits and are traceable to national or international standards. One of the technical guidelines for conducting infrared thermometer calibration refers to the SNSU PK.S-03:2022 guideline issued by the National Standardization Agency, as an effort to harmonize the implementation of infrared thermometer calibration laboratories. This study aims to analyze the effect of measurement position variation along the X-axis on the accuracy of temperature readings by an infrared thermometer. In the non-contact temperature calibration process, the relative position between the measuring instrument and the radiation source (blackbody calibrator) significantly determines the accuracy of the measurement results, as infrared thermometers are highly sensitive to changes in viewing angle and measurement geometry. The method used in this activity includes direct observation of the calibration process, experiments with three positions variations (center, positive X, and negative X) at different temperature ranges (-5,15,35,55,75) degrees celcius, as well as a literature review to strengthen the theoretical foundation. Data collection was repeated six times under each condition to minimize random errors. The instruments used include the Isotech Hyperion R-982 blackbody calibrator, the Value VIT300 infrared thermometer, and the Sanfix TH-303A thermohygrometer. The measurement results were then analyzed by calculating the correction values obtained from the infrared thermometer.
