Abstract

Research on the antibacterial activity of Plumeria rubra leaf extract on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Eschericia coli bacteria has been carried out. Plumeria rubra leaf samples were extracted by maceration method using ethanol and acetone. The antibacterial activity test was carried out by the diffusion method using disc paper based on the diameter of the inhibition zone and was carried out three times (triple). The concentrations of ethanol and acetone extracts used were 5%, 10%, 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80%. The results showed that the ethanol extract of Plumeria rubra leaf with a concentration of 80% had the best antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with an inhibition zone diameter of 17.8 mm (strong). Meanwhile, ethanol extract with a concentration of 20% showed the best antibacterial activity against Eschericia coli bacteria with an inhibition zone diameter of 20.3 mm (strong). Plumeria rubra leaf acetone extract with a concentration of 80% showed the best antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with a zone diameter of resistance of 15.2 mm (strong). Meanwhile, acetone extract with a concentration of 80% showed the best antibacterial activity against Eschericia coli bacteria with an inhibition zone diameter of 16.4 mm (strong).
