Augmented Reality in chemistry learning: does it affect students^ understanding of submicroscopic representations?

Abstract

In chemistry lessons, submicroscopic representations are difficult to understand. It takes visualization of atoms and molecules to understand submicroscopic representations. Augmented Reality (AR) is becoming a promising medium for visualizing atoms and molecules. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effect of AR media on students^ understanding of submicroscopic representations in covalent bonding and molecular shapes topic. Qualitative research was used in this study. The dimensions investigated are the prediction rule of submicroscopic- quality of image submicroscopic and Alternate between macro and relate submicroscopic model. Respondents in this study were 30 students from a high school in Boyolali, Central Java. The instrument used is a test in the form of three questions related to the dimensions to be tested. The results of this study indicate that students are able to understand the submicroscopic level and the relationship between levels of multiple chemical representations using the developed Android-based Augmented Reality learning media
