Abstract
This research aims to analyze students^ learning obstacles to the law of conservation of mass concept. Students^ learning obstacles to the law of conservation of mass material are important to analyze because the material of the law of conservation of mass is fundamental and is related to other chemical materials. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. The instrument used is the respondent^s ability test and interview guidelines. The research was carried out in a private school in Bandung with the research subject of 27 students of class XI science who had studied the concept of the law of conservation of mass. The findings of this study found that learning obstacles occur because students have misconceptions about the concept of mass, and students are not able to apply the law of conservation of mass in chemical calculations. Students assume that the mass of solid is heavier than the mass of liquid and that the mass of gas involved in chemical reactions is not taken into account.
