Abstract
Massage oil is often used in traditional medicine because it contains active ingredients with therapeutic effects, but there are few reports of massage oil with antibacterial activity. The purpose of this study was to make massage oil from VCO and lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus) oil with varying concentrations of clove oil (Syzygium aromaticum) and test its antibacterial activity. The stages of research are as follows: (a) making Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) using the fermentation method, (b) preparing essential oils of lemongrass and cloves, (c) making 3 formulas (F0, F1, and F2) of massage oil from VCO and lemongrass with variations in clove oil, and (d) testing the antibacterial activity of 3 massage oil formulas using the paper-disk diffusion method with test bacteria Staphylococcus aureus as gram-positive and Escherichia coli as gram-negative. The results showed that the greater the amount of clove oil added, the greater the massage oil^s antibacterial activity. Antibacterial activity against S. aureus is greater than against E. coli.
