Abstract
Hydroxyapatite (HAp) and hydroxyapatite chitosan composite (HCC) were synthesized using Geloina coaxans shells and sodium dihydrogen phosphate (NaH2PO4) as precursors with the (Ca/P) ratio of 1.67. Chitosan is a biopolymer derived from the shells of Scylla olivacea. Several parameter reactions were used to evaluate hydroxyapatite and HCC. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that the characteristic peaks for hydroxyapatite and HCC appear at 2 theta = 31.77, with an average crystal size of 37 nm. Brunauer Emmet Teller (BET) analysis, a technique for measuring surface area, indicated that HCC has a surface area of 3.68 m2/g and an average pore radius of 3.68 nm. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed the presence of specific absorption bands associated with hydroxyl (O-H), phosphate (PO43-), and amine (-NH) groups in both hydroxyapatite and HCC. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis, which provides high-resolution images of surfaces, revealed that hydroxyapatite exhibits a compact, spherical morphology, whereas HCC shows a more porous, loosely spherical structure
