Abstract
The teachers ability to transfer STEAM knowledge to students is the most important thing. The aim of the research is to analyze teachers abilities in STEAM knowledge and their role in increasing students scientific literacy. This research method used a qualitative research approach, data were collected using questionnaires and through semi-structured interviews involving 29 respondents from primary school homeroom teachers in grades I-VI, and 5 respondents specifically for science teachers in grades IV-VI as research participants.
This study also identified some of the challenges faced by teachers in STEAM knowledge. Constraints which include teachers initial understanding of STEAM learning, integration into projects, time constraints, limited resources, and lack of adequate training with intense assistance for teachers in the STEAM field so that they can affect the implementation of effective STEAM learning.
Based on the results of the study, it was shown that 72.4% of teachers did not know about the STEAM learning approach steps, only 27.6% of teachers abilities in STEAM knowledge already knew about it. While teachers still play an important role in increasing students scientific literacy. Teachers who have a deep understanding of STEAM concepts and are able to integrate them into learning are able to create interesting and challenging experiences for students. They can relate scientific concepts to real contexts, encourage critical thinking, and facilitate students exploration of problem solving.
The results of this study have important implications for the development of science education that is more holistic and science literacy oriented. Efforts are needed to improve teachers understanding and skills in STEAM knowledge through training, collaborative learning, and curriculum development that supports the STEAM approach. Support from schools, government and the community is also an important factor in improving teacher skills and students.
