Abstract
The modern history of the tourism industry is one of rapid change and mass market development. This point, which has been stated ad infinitum in tourism literature, shows many interesting parallels with the development of modern sports. Both have recently opened up to mass participation. In the process, both worked to ease the shackles this season. One aspect of professional sports development is the end of the sports season. This article explores seasonal changes in sport and considers the implications for the tourism industry. The Indonesian Sports Triathlon professional development is used as a case study. Transcripts of primary interviews were used to explore the changing relationship between sport and seasonal tourism. We concluded that the relationship between sports and tourism is becoming more and more clear. Tourism operator with careful consideration of the changing sports season can reduce the seasonality of tourism which has been a concern until now. The potential for a mutually beneficial relationship between sports administration and tourism is maintained.
