Abstract

Nanocrystal formulation has limited stability due to a crystal growth particularly formulated into a nano suspension. Therefore, the stabilization of formulation could be conducted by a solid nanocrystal formulation. This present study purposed to formulate the nanocrystal of naringenin, a poor water-soluble bioflavonoid, and incorporated into mesoporous soluble carrier. Naringenin nanocrystal was prepared through a solvent evaporation technique by entrapping the solvent containing naringenin, polymer, and surfactant into a mesoporous carrier. A22 full factorial design was applied to study the effect of Kolliphor EL and Kolliphor P188 as surfactant and polymer, respectively. The solvent was eliminated by evaporation. Furthermore, the solid material was characterized by kinetic solubility, vibrational spectroscopy, thermal analysis, powder x-ray diffraction, and morphological analysis. The results indicated that the naringenin loaded into mesoporous and nanocrystal was obtained. It was confirmed by those characterizations. The naringenin nanocrystal was obtained around 300-500 nm. Increasing the polymer and surfactant concentrations reduced the nanocrystal size. In addition, those parameters inhibited precipitation during supersaturation.
