Abstract
University builds the young generations and producing researches and innovation for the greater good of the society. The progression of universities in fulfilling their expected roles is shown on several measurements that are commonly seen as indicators in university ranking system. Bogor Agricultural University (IPB University), one of leading universities in Indonesia, aspire to be one of the best in the world. It has been consistently moving upward in the ranking since being ranked on the 750-800th in the world in 2018 up to ranked below 500th today in QS World University Ranking. This research aims to find the underlying risk factors for the university to rank higher at QS world University ranking. The criteria in the ranking that become the focus of the management are citations per faculty, employment outcomes and academic reputation. IPB University will have to consider the risks inherently embedded in achieving the goal. Data is collected through focus group discussion with the deans of schools in IPB University that than portrayed into a systemic view using causal diagram. The reinforcing loop shows that collaborations with industries and governmental agencies is the catalyst for employment opportunities, research and funding and contribute to the betterment of learning process, increase the quality of graduates and enhancing their chance of employability. The balancing loops show increase student intake will lessen quality of learning process. On the other hand, adding more faculties means lessen the quality of internal service and add the denominator of the citation per faculty ratio.
